How many days is enough in New Orleans? ›

NOLA isn't as big as some of the other famous American cities like New York or Los Angeles, so a proper New Orleans tour doesn't have to involve staying for weeks. We would recommend staying for three or four days if you want to see all the hits, and about a week if you want to really get to know the town.

2 perfect days in New Orleans. OK, we admit it: You won't be able to see everything New Orleans has to offer in two days. But 48 hours still gives just enough time to eat your fill of beignets and gumbo, take in a jazz show on Frenchmen Street, and bar-hop your way down Bourbon (practically required!).

TLDR: Stay in the Quarter if you have a short stay. You want to be in close walking distance to most attractions and don't mind a party or surprises. For a luxurious stay, The Ritz Carlton on the edge of the Quarter is a prime location for exploring the city.

A Note on Safety

Don't walk alone in quiet and dark places. Stick to bright, populated areas with foot traffic. The French Quarter in particular is an enchanting place, and it's tempting to explore its nooks and alleyways, but do it only when there are other people around.

Most first time visitors stay in the French Quarter. 12 blocks by 6 blocks of Architecture, Art Galleries, Shops of all types, Museums, Bars of every genre, Restaurants, Music Venues. Then you can venture out to the neighborhoods from there on very easy public transit.

How many days in New Orleans is enough? I personally could see myself living in New Orleans, so to me there's never enough time! But, for the average traveler 3 or 4 days is perfect. I recommend taking a long weekend to visit so you have two full days and two half days (on each end of the trip).
